Key Stage 1 (Years 1 & 2)

Blooming Greens School is dedicated in ensuring the development of the Total Child through both curricular and co-curricular activities.

Our Key Stage One pupils who are between the ages of 5 and 7 in Years 1 and 2 are taught in bright, colourful, airy classrooms and outdoor learning is not left behind.

All pupils have access to the school field, playgrounds and adventure play areas which challenge and develop their gross motor skills.

In ensuring we build the Total child, we create a stimulating environment in which children are actively encouraged to;

Teaching and learning is planned according to our rich blend of the National Curriculum for England and Wales with the content of the Nigerian Curriculum and is supported by a wide range of high quality books and resources ordered from the UK. The quality of teaching and learning at Blooming Greens School is such that meets the needs of every pupil whilst attempting to challenge them further.

Pupils develop their speaking, listening, writing, reading and critical thinking skills by following our rich curriculum scheme. The love for reading and sharing books with peers and adults develops as they become independent readers. History, Geography and cross-curricular topics which foster deep thinking and understanding of the world are all brought alive through practical hands-on experience and regular field trips. We equip our pupils with lifelong skills such as problem solving, computing skills, team and collaborative learning opportunities.

Through thoughtful and careful planning and organization of the learning environment, our Professional, well trained, friendly and cultured member of staff teachers ensure that every child has the opportunity to succeed academically and socially. Children are exposed to Guided reading where teachers target ability groups for reading and teach specific skills and Mental Maths to improve their listening skills, build their speed and accuracy. Self-esteem and confidence are nurtured in order that children become motivated and active learners.

In addition to our solid academics, pupils have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of co-curricular activities such as Young Engineers, Swimming, Karate, Ballet, Press, French, Arts, and Music.

Through the introduction of the Class Rules and the Reward system, pupils are inculcated with the spirit of obedience, team work, love and care for themselves, others and the school environment.

The Key Stage One is a significant period for our pupils in which foundations upon which the rest of their education will be built are laid.
